The FELTOM 2024 Malta Workshop: A Recap of an Educational Journey in the Heart of the Mediterranean

In the picturesque backdrop of Malta, nestled in the Mediterranean Sea, the FELTOM 2024 ELT Malta Workshop unfolded last February, offering agents a unique opportunity to delve into the world of English Language Teaching (ELT) amidst the rich cultural tapestry of the island. Let's take a closer look at the final programme of this enriching event. The event took place between the 5th and 9th February 2024.

Day 1: Exploring Valletta

The workshop commenced with a day dedicated to agents, beginning with registration at the hotel and a check-in at The Odycy Hotel. The afternoon saw participants embarking on a captivating tour of Malta's capital city, Valletta. Highlights included a visit to the magnificent St John's Co-Cathedral, followed by a delightful dinner at the Gambit Bar and Bistro, offering a taste of Maltese culinary delights.

Day 2: Immersive School Visits

The second day dawned with a hearty breakfast at the hotel, setting the stage for a series of school visits, providing agents with valuable insights into English language education in Malta. The day concluded with an elegant opening reception at the Picasso Restaurant in Sliema, where delegates mingled against the backdrop of stunning sea views.

Day 3: Workshops and Cultural Immersion

The workshop's momentum continued with a blend of professional development and cultural exploration. Participants enjoyed breakfast at the hotel before diving into a day filled with a mixture of more school visits and a workshop in the afternoon at the Luzzu Hall, The Odycy Hotel. A tour of Mdina, Malta's ancient capital, and a networking reception at the Medina Restaurant provided agents with an opportunity to unwind and connect in a historic setting.

Day 4: Island Excursion to Gozo

Thursday saw agents venturing beyond Malta's shores to the enchanting island of Gozo. After breakfast, the group embarked on a ferry to Gozo, where they immersed themselves in the island's rich history and natural beauty through sightseeing tours and a school visit. The day culminated in a memorable beer tasting and closing reception at The Cisk Tap, The Brewhouse in B'Kara, celebrating both professional achievements and the bonds forged during the workshop.

A distinguishing feature of the FELTOM workshops is the emphasis on experiential learning. Unlike traditional conferences where delegates are confined to meeting rooms, FELTOM workshops offer a hands-on approach, allowing agents not only to hear about the English Language schools in Malta but also to see and visit them firsthand. This immersive experience provides a deeper understanding of the educational landscape and fosters meaningful connections between agents and schools. By stepping into the classrooms and engaging directly with educators, participants gain invaluable insights into teaching methodologies, facilities, and the overall student experience. This unique aspect of the workshop underscores FELTOM's commitment to providing agents with a comprehensive understanding of Malta's ELT sector, ensuring that they are equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to effectively promote English language education in their respective markets.

In retrospect, the workshop not only provided a platform for professional growth and networking but also offered a unique opportunity to experience the warmth and hospitality of Malta, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended. As agents dispersed to their respective corners of the globe, they carried with them not just knowledge but also a piece of Malta's charm, fostering connections that transcended borders and cultures.
